Default Quilt Frame

Does anyone have a pattern to make a free standing quilt frame for hand quilting. I would like to set one up in my sunroom, yes I did google it but most are to buy not free patterns. Any ideas would be helpful.

Dear Allison,
I made myself one years ago by attaching strips of fabric to some pieces of wood with a staple gun and buying four g-clamps for each corner and then the whole contraption balanced on four chair backs. I didn't actually hand quilt on it, I only used it to tack quilts together for hand quilting and it worked a treat once I learnt how to tension the backing by pinning it to the strips of fabric and then using the G-clamps to reset the tension after I rolled what I had tacked onto the end pieces of wood. I could tack a queen size quilt in a day. Now I just get a long arm quilter to do it. It usually costs between $50 and $60. I get antsy if I don't have at least two quilts waiting to be hand quilted during the winter. They may not get done but they are there if I need them. Happy stitching, Therese.

sounds like your DH is a handy man and one to treasure Allison. I am lucky as my FIL made me a light box to do my tracings on. It is brilliant and he made it from an old drawer and some persplex to fit on the top and I bought a flouro light to go in it and FIL fit the light into it and wired it up and I now have a brilliant light box for my tracings Its handy to have handy ones

Hi, I too would be interested in that sort of pattern/idea. I am currently working on a lap size quilt on a 45cm square frame - very annoying having the whole quilt lying all over me as I work on it - specially in the hot weather. I've asked hubby to make me something but his response was to jump on the pc and google quilt frames.
