I love Australian Country Threads magazine. I find the tips page very useful. Some people are very clever with their ideas.

I agree Lynda, I enjoy the tips page. I keep planning to send my tips in one day I might even get around to it. I am also finding the Back to Basics very helpful. I have only been quilting for a couple of years and find the advice helpful. I also like the tips and bits of information about history or tradtions and things like that that are included in different areas. The only problem I have is the competitions are always in 25 words or less, I would at least have a chance of winning something if it was just picked at random. Words are not one of my strong suits. Other than that there is nothing better than curling up with a cup of tea and a good mag, well other than stitching and a cup of tea.

Hi - I am very new at this having only come across my first copy of ACT in November but am trying to catch up fast. So far I have done 4 stitcheries & my very first patchwork & slightly quilted mini wall-hanging - most proud! The tips are great help & I have brought as many back issues of the mag as I can to get the Back to Basics lessons.
I have the opposite problem to you Picklecat with the comps - if it was 250 words or more I might be able to fit in all I want to say - can't you tell by my post!
I also enjoy reading about the craft groups. I yearn for the day when I am not trying to cram the pleasures of life into a couple of hours each night & can join a group of like-minded people.
Can't wait to start Phillipa Morris's cat stitchery from the latest issue. :D
Enjoy - Tracee
250 words! You should submit some of that to go into the magazine - maybe send a letter to the editor.

Tacee,
I just can't think of the right things to say in the 25 words of less for the comps. I think it would be interesting to know that the winning entries are so that we have some idea of the type of responces the judges are looking for. Or is that giving the game away. I do like the Philippa Moris designs. I have made two of her dolls. I have email her a couple of times when I have gotten stuck or wanted to check some of the instructions with her and she has been a great help. I am thinking about doing Belinda Merritt's Scrappy Squares when I have finished a few other projects. I thought I might use the fabrics my sister-in-law and mother-in-law gave me from America. Or use the purple and yellow they gave me as the starting colours. Who know, I'll findout when the time comes.

Hi Picklecat
I agree, being able to read the winning entries would be great & give us an idea of what's expected for future comps. Help our odds of winning something wonderful!
That is really nice to hear about Phillipa helping you with making her dolls. When my current stitchery obsession is getting satisfied I would like to try a couple of her cat dolls & maybe Celeste the cow.
Lucky thing - fabric from America though purple & yellows sounds vibrant & cheery too. Decisions, decisions.
So many projects - so little time! Tracee

So true, I wish I had more time to do the things I want to do. I have been thinking some more about that quilt. I might use the yellows and purples for the small nine patch blocks, haven't decided on the borders of those yet, and use blues for the triangles on the corners. I have better get some of my UFO's finished soon. I plan to learn to hand quilt this year. Mum gave me a quilting hoop for my birthday last year and I have a quilt top that needs quilting that I want to do by hand. This winter would be the best time to do it. I had better start stitching more offen and finish these things.
Happy stitching
